Perform a variety of technical, environmental , and patient care dutiesunder the direct supervision of a Registered Nu rse. These duties areperformed in accordance with establishedhospital an dnursing policyand within the legal scope of practice for the unlicensed caregiver.
Level IVerify patient loca tion and identification.Transferand/or assist patients during transport, following departmental safetyguidelines.Communicate with patients and re spond to patientneeds promptly, satisfy needs or refer their requests to appropriate personnel.Keep charge nurse informed of room statusand atten dant availability.Assist in the orientation of newstaff as requested byn urse manager or designee.Provideemergency assistance as required and/or directed by surgeon and/ornursing personnel.Transport specimen, equipmen t, etc. toappropriate area in safe and efficient manner.According to the plan of care developed by the RN, deliver patient careappropriate tothe age of the patients served.Successfully complete annualself-instruction al unit regarding age appropriate care for the infant,toddler, child,ado lescent, adult and geriatricpatients.Prepare the unit for cases/ procedu res utilizingfunctional equipment and supplies.Assist with positioning t hepatient and follow accepted procedures for preparation of patientsfors urgical procedures.Assist with wraps, casts, anddressings.Route non-func tional equipment to proper maintenancedepartment for repair, notingon eq uipment what the malfunction appearsto be.Assist in minor maintenance fu nctions (i.e. replace lightbulbs in power sources and surgical lights).S et up andtroubleshoot all equipment in service line and 85% of allequipm ent inother services.Accurately and safely use all patientpositioning de vices and tables.Clean equipment, tables andfloor as required withproper cleaning solution.Collect, bagand remove soiled linen and trashproperly .Replace suctionliners, trash bags and other supplies as needed.Return c leanedequipment to appropriate area after the case.Stock and maintainade quate levels of supplies at scrub sink and sub rooms asappropriate.Maint ain orderly work environment by keepingoperating rooms, storageareas, ha llways and all units clean, tidy andhazard free.Obtain and maintain unit supplies andequipment.Level IIPerform all duties of Level I inaddition to the following:Serve as a resource and role modelfor SurgicalAttendant s and others.Provide leadership andguidance to Surgical Attendants underthe direction of anRN.Assist with daily assignments in cooperation with unitmanagement representatives.Cooperate in planning orientation ofnew Surgical Attendants, under the supervision of an RN.Providefeedback to m anagement representative regarding orientation/ skills ofnew employees.S erve as a resource and role model for SurgicalAttendants and others.Prov ide leadership and guidance toSurgical Attendants under the direction of an RN.Assist withdaily assignments in cooperation with unit managementr epresentatives.Cooperate in planning orientation of newSurgical Attendan ts, under the supervision of an RN.Providefeedback to management represe ntative regarding orientation/ skills ofnew employees.
Knowl edge, Skills and Abilities
Level IBasic mechanical knowledge for assembly of equipment andthe ability to comprehend and followinstructio ns.Knowledge ofsterile technique.Physical abilities to complete job duti eswhich include heavy lifting, prolonged sitting, standing, and walking, ability to push, pull climb, stoop/kneel, reach overhead androtatetrunk for prolonged periods.Level IISame as Level I plusleadershipskills
Work requires basic mechanical knowledge for assembly of equipment and the ability to comprehend and follow instructions normally acquired through a partial high school education.

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Level ILevel II Current BCLS certification. Same as Level I plus, currently listed as a Nursing Assistant (NAI) with the North Carolina Division of Facilities Services with no substantiated findings of abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of property (preferred but not required).
