The Supervisory Social Worker serves as a Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) Care Coordinator within a Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) providing expert clinical and care coordination services to Veterans served by the CBOC's interdisciplinary mental health team. This position focuses on successful development and implementation of an interdisciplinary BHIP team at a CBOC and monitors overall productivity and clinic function. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: GS 12 Supervisor Social Worker Education and Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Knowledge of community resources, how to make appropriate referrals to community and other governmental agencies for services, and ability to coordinate services. Independently conduct psychosocial assessments and treatment interventions to a wide variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational and other diversified backgrounds. Knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities and treatment procedures (i.e. acute, chronic and traumatic illnesses/injuries, common medications and their effects/side effects, and medical terminology) to formulate a treatment plan. Independently implement different treatment modalities in working with individuals, families, and groups who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical, and social problems to achieve treatment goals. Provide consultation services to new social workers, social work graduate students, and other staff about the psychosocial needs of patients and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and compliance with treatment. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services. Ability to provide staff training and development. Administrative supervision controls and responsibilities for the clinical therapy positions, including but not limited to, Clinical Social Workers and Licensed Mental Health Therapists on the respective BHIP team. completing annual performance evaluations, hiring and training of these positions, initiating corrective action and implementing staff in-service and training. Oversees BHIP team communication, staffing coverage, staff professional development and team cohesiveness, providing opportunities for team building and collaboration. Incumbent provides clinical and administrative consultation to BHIP team members, VA health care providers and VA medical facility-based committees regarding BHIP clinics. 30% time to providing clinical services, including groups and individual therapy and coordinates communication with Veterans to facilitate care coordination. Monitors dashboards and reports to ensure timely completion of required screenings, follow-up care and access to mental health services including monitoring productivity outcomes, measurement-based care and evidence-based therapy utilization and clinic return and consult access for services. Monitors panel activity and inactivity to ensure appropriate episodes of care and transitions in line with active treatment plans within the BHIP team.
