This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine in Chiropractic education/or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Physical Requirements: Chiropractors work in clean, comfortable offices. They spend a great deal of time on their feet and use hands-on manipulation techniques to resolve imbalances in the patient's skeletal system. The average work week is 40 hours, although longer hours are not uncommon. ["Major Duties and Responsibilities Chiropractors utilize standard medical evaluation procedures along with biomechanical assessment to establish a diagnosis and formulate a management plan. They consult with other health care providers and refer patients in accordance with accepted medical indications. Chiropractic treatment includes a number of options such as patient education, therapeutic exercise, lifestyle recommendations, and other interventions such as joint manipulation and mobilization, soft tissue therapies, and physical modalities. Chiropractors may also be trained and licensed to deliver a number of interventions currently classified as Complementary and Integrative Health (CIH) therapies such as acupuncture, biologically based preparations, and mind-body therapies. Scope of practice. At the discretion of the Chief of Staff, clinical privileges may be granted based on the individual's documented education, competence, and experience. The minimum practice privileges for which the chiropractor is authorized include:(1) Performing patient history and physical examination(2) Ordering imaging, laboratory or other diagnostic studies as appropriate(3) Establishing diagnosis and treatment plan(4) Providing patient instruction and recommendations pertaining to hygiene, nutrition, exercise, sanitary measures, lifestyle changes, stress reduction, and modifications of ergonomic factors(5) Performing standard manual procedures consistent with chiropractic care as commonly contained in the core curriculum of Council on Chiropractic Education-accredited chiropractic colleges.(6) Providing other CIH services, consistent with individual training and licensure, and facility needs.(7) Making referrals to other clinicians including medical, surgical and behavioral health specialties, and other providers such as physical therapists and occupational therapists Supervisory Controls The chiropractor functions under the indirect medical supervision of the Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehab.
