The incumbent in this position serves as a Supervisor for Acute Inpatient Psychiatry and Emergency Department Mental Health staff. The Supervisor has broad program management responsibilities for Inpatient Psychiatry and ED Mental Health, which are designed to deliver specialized, complex, highly professional services that are important program components of the facility and significantly impact the health care provided to Veterans. Program management responsibilities include the development of short and long- range goals and plans, development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure goal attainment, management of administrative and programmatic resources, and outcomes monitoring using data-driven quality assurance processes. Very wide latitude and independent judgment are exercised in making decisions affecting staff and other resources associated with the managed programs in achievement of medical center management goals and objectives, including performance monitors. The incumbent ensures that clinicians provide the highest quality of mental health care to veterans utilizing evidence-based practices and clinical guidelines. The incumbent is responsible for Focused Professional Practice Evaluations (FPPE) and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE) reviews for all staff assigned to the incumbent's areas of responsibility (i.e., section) in consultation with the discipline lead experts. The incumbent is responsible for effectively managing and supervising the program's resources including staff, funds, space and equipment-utilized in the development and direction of the mental health services, consultations, research, and training provided the veterans and staff of the medical center. The incumbent sets priorities, delegates tasks, meets multiple deadlines, analyzes complex organizational problems and implements effective solutions for those problems. The incumbent works with chiefs and supervisors of other services/organizations to resolve any substantive problems or areas of concern; when deemed necessary, advises higher level management of problems, and assesses the impact of those problems on Mental Health Service programs and those of related services/organizations. Develops Standard Operative Procedures to ensure quality care for patients that are in compliance with all regulations from accreditation and other governing bodies. Provides a full range of assessment services and diagnoses mental disorders, particularly for complex or unusually difficult patients. Provides education to patients, family members, and significant others. Provides comprehensive, evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy. Provides consultation to professional staff within VAMC Memphis and to community providers, concerning clinical assessment findings and appropriate treatment plan for patients. Develops, implements, and documents the psychotherapeutic treatment plan for an assigned caseload of patients, including prompt completion of clinical reminders. Functions as a Licensed Independent Practitioner and LCSW. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday (Full Time) with potential on call responsibilities or additional hours needed due to supervisory responsibility over ED and Inpatient Psychiatry which are open 24/7.
