The Senior Social Worker has specialized training and experience in Evidence Based Psychotherapies, such as Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, Social Skills Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression, Anxiety, and Insomnia, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. The Senior Social Worker for whom this functional statement applies uses advanced training and expertise to provide independent specialized assessment and treatment of Veterans who have complex and severe medical and mental illnesses, including but not limited to Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and other Anxiety Disorders, Depressive Disorders, Substance Abuse, Traumatic Brain Injury, Cognitive Impairment Disorders, and Severe Mental Illness. The incumbent is skilled in providing independent and expert psychotherapeutic services to Veterans who tend to have serious psychosocial crises, lack familial and community support, be poor self-monitors, frequently fail to comply with instructions and treatment, or may have major deficits in coping skills and require continuing professional psychological support.
