The University of California, Irvine (UCI) Medical Center invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO).
As the only university-based care provider in Orange County, UC Irvine Health System is a multifaceted organization dedicated to the discovery of new medical frontiers, the teaching of future healers, and the delivery of the finest evidence-based care. UC Irvine Medical Center has been rated one of the nation’s best hospitals by U.S. News and World Report for 13 straight years, and it is the only Level I and Level II pediatric trauma center in Orange County. UCIMC is home to a 417-bed acute care hospital providing tertiary and quaternary care, ambulatory and specialty medical clinics, and behavioral health and rehabilitation. Other centers of excellence at the UC Irvine Medical Center include state-of-the-art emergency departments that include the only Level I and Level II pediatric trauma centers in Orange County; the region’s only high-risk perinatal/ neonatal program and maternal-fetal transport system; and the Regional Burn Center. The Medical Center employs approximately 4,800 staff members and admits more than 19,000 patients annually, and has an annual operating budget of $1.3 billion.
UC Irvine School of Medicine is ranked one of the top 50 U.S. medical schools for research by U.S. News & World Report, and home to one of on 41 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the country. With a recent $200 million transformational gift from the Samueli family, UC Irvine is now home to the newly formed Susan and Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences, which includes the School of Medicine, the Bill Gross School of Nursing, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the School of Population Health and Disease Prevention. The College will include a new building housing state-of-the-art technology and labs, forming an international nexus evidence-based integrative health research and practice.

The COO will be an accomplished leader joining a leading academic medical center as a key member of UCI Health System’s dynamic and high-performing senior leadership team. The COO is responsible for UC Irvine Medical Center’s overall operational leadership and will ensure successful implementation of the Medical Center’s strategic plan, including extensive build out of the physical space and clinical programs.
