This position serves as the Deputy Associate Chief of Staff for Mental Health (Deputy ACOS MH) and Division Director/IMPACT Unit Leader for the Integrative and Consultative Services unit (IU3) of the Mental Health Care Line (MHCL) of VA San Diego healthcare System (VASDHS). The MHCL of VASDHS is a hybrid care line including Psychiatry and Psychology services as well as Mental Health Social Work, Mental Health Nursing, and Mental Health Psychiatric Pharmacy leadership and staff. Services are provided across 6 distinct division/units, which include IU3 where integrative and consultative services are provided across the healthcare system (e.g., primary care mental health integration, integrated mental health in spinal cord injury unit, TBI rehabilitation services, neuropsychological testing, etc.). The primary purpose of this position is to provide leadership, budgetary oversight, and programmatic management to: 1) the MHCL under the direction of the Associate Chief of Staff for Mental Health (ACOS MH) and 2) IU3. The incumbent has broad program management responsibilities which include the operation and management of key clinical and administrative programs and responsibilities including development and implementation of programs, policies, and procedures; oversight of administrative and programmatic resources; and monitoring of outcomes using a data-driven quality assurance process. The Deputy ACOS MH serves as a key advisor to the ACOS MH and together with the ACOS MH, the Deputy ACOS MH is responsible for leadership and direction to the MHCL. Duties include assisting the ACOS in developing, organizing, directing and evaluating an integrated mental health program for both outpatients and inpatients; performance of higher-level management functions through participation in strategic planning and oversight boards, councils, and committees; oversight of professional review processes and providing direction to performance improvement activities/goals. As the IU3 Division Director, the position is primarily responsible for the oversight of all clinical and administrative duties of that unit as well as the oversight and direct supervision of a multidisciplinary team of providers. These responsibilities include participation in strategic and operational planning, establishing workload targets, reviewing staffing and resource utilization, and development of overall policies governing the provision of services within IU3. The incumbent reports directly to the ACOS MH.
Work Schedule: The work schedule will be discussed during the interview process. Weekend, holiday, and overtime work may be required to meet patient needs.

b. Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
(1) Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or (2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. (3) For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant.
c. Licensure and Registration. Physicians must possess a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
d. Residency Training. Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA Physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA), in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies or their equivalents which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training.

f. English Language Proficiency. Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

- Board certification in Psychiatry
- Excellence in clinical care, preferably in integrated mental health services, and expertise in at least one mental health disorder highly relevant to the VA clinical core mission
- Demonstrated successful track record as an administrator overseeing robust clinical programs in a large and complex health care facility
- Recognized expertise as an educator and/or a demonstrated track record of peer-reviewed research as evidenced by contributions to the peer-reviewed literature and/or peer reviewed grant funding
- Experience in leading multidisciplinary staff including psychiatry, psychology, social work, nursing, pharmacy, and others working in mental health settings
- Eligibility for an academic appointment at the affiliated medical school
