Responsibilities of this position include conducting exemplary interdisciplinary research in substance abuse/ addictions including obtaining external funding and publishing findings; education/training with fellows, residents and medical students; and contributing to clinical treatment operations. This position is strongly supported by well-equipped and staffed core facilities (e.g. Clinical Research Services Center, biostatistics, bioinformatics, genomics, metabolomics), clinical and preclinical research laboratories, research-dedicated 3T MRI and PET scanners, outpatient treatment programs, and research administrative services (IRB, grants management, technology transfer).
Priority will be given to applicants with current external funding and/or specialization in addiction psychiatry/ medicine. Applicants should ideally have a U.S. medical degree or equivalent (M.D. or D.O.), with post-doctoral credentialing in addiction psychiatry or addiction medicine, licensure (or license-eligible) to practice in the State of Michigan and DEA licensure. Alternatively, we will consider externally-funded Ph.D. applicants with post-doctoral training in substance abuse/addiction biology and therapy. We seek individuals with excellent potential to develop inter- and trans-disciplinary approaches. Applicants with cross-cutting programmatic interests in the neurosciences (e.g. brain imaging, epigenetics), chronic pain, prescription drug misuse, integrated behavioral healthcare, pharmacotherapies, stressors and psychiatric comorbidities, special populations (e.g. at-risk youth, elderly, HIV/AIDS, pregnant females, metabolic diseases) or health equity/disparities will provide synergy with faculty expertise and activities.
The faculty member will have a primary office in IBio and will be integrated with scientific teams, and appointed in department(s) and colleges, that are consistent with his/her areas of training, expertise and shared interests. Additional office/lab space in the appointed department(s) is negotiable. Successful candidates will exhibit leadership potential, creativity and initiative, high ethical responsibility, strong ability to work collaboratively, and translating knowledge to practice to improve health equity. A record of scholarly output and/or intention is required as a WSU faculty member. Salary and benefits are highly competitive. The faculty member will receive careful mentorship.
IBio is a campus-wide resource and focal point, but researchers from WSU School of Medicine departments (e.g. Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences, Pathology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences) are significant stakeholders, and the Psychiatry Chair is leading the Translational Neuroscience Initiative. The WSU School of Medicine is well connected with the on-site NIH Perinatal Research Branch (PRB), Karmanos Cancer Institute (KCI; a highly ranked comprehensive cancer center), and other WSU Colleges (Engineering, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences) and Institutes/Centers (Cardiovascular Research, Environmental Health Sciences, Gerontology, Merrill Palmer Skillman [lifespan], Molecular Medicine & Genetics, NanoBioScience), the John D.
